Research shows that the “color-blind” approach to grant-making that philanthropy uses is not working. While well-meaning, ignoring the implications of race has served to disadvantage people of color. In fact, it may be exacerbating existing racial disparities
or even creating new ones.
Our giving circle focuses on Health, Financial Inclusion and K-12+ Education because these areas are not realizing the progress we believe this millennium demands.
The time for change is now!
Health
An individual’s zip code is a stronger predictor of an individual’s overall health more so than other factors, like biology or genetics.
Outside influences create barriers even if they don’t exist for an individual.

The racial wealth gap in the United States not only has persisted in recent decades but also has grown at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3 percent between 2003 and 2018.
K-12+ Education
Equity in education is achieved when all students receive the resources they need so they graduate prepared for success after high school.. Today, lack of funding, the distribution of resources and a hostile political climate impact equity.

Research shows that race is one of the most reliable predictors of life outcomes across all the areas above. If socioeconomic difference explained these inequities, then controlling for socioeconomic status would eliminate them.
